Cookies & Storage

What Yana keeps on your device, why it is there, and how to clear it.

Last updated: 12 August 2026

Cookies and tracking

By using Yana you agree to our use of cookies, local storage and similar technologies, including measurement and analytics technology we may add over time to support the website, the app, or both. See our Privacy Policy for how we use information generally.

New Zealand does not have a separate cookie-consent law. What governs this is the Privacy Act 2020, and this page is how we tell you what is being stored — so there is no pop-up banner to dismiss.

What is stored on your device

  • Your app data — your medications, dose history, check-ins and progress are kept on your device so the app works offline. Any custom medication or profile photo you add is stored the same way, on-device only, and never uploaded. This is the app’s primary storage, not a cache.
  • Medicine and health content — the medicine guides, condition pages and wellbeing articles are downloaded and kept on your device so they open instantly and work with no connection.
  • Changes waiting to sync — anything you record while offline is queued on your device until it can reach your account.
  • Your sign-in session — if you have an account, a token that keeps you signed in. Removing it signs you out.
  • Your preferences — your light or dark theme and your display language, stored so the right theme is applied before the page paints and you do not see a flash of the wrong one, and so the app opens in your language offline. Also your reminder settings, and whether you have completed onboarding.
  • Offline app files — the app’s own pages, fonts and icons are cached so it opens without a connection.
  • Queued diagnostic reports — if the app crashes while you are offline, the crash report is held on your device until it can be sent, so the fault is not lost. See “Diagnostic crash reports” in the Privacy Policy for what one contains.

Yana does not currently set third-party advertising cookies and does not run a third-party advertising network. If we add measurement or analytics technology, this list will be updated in the same change.

How to clear it

Clearing your browser’s site data for Yana, or clearing the app’s storage in your phone’s settings, removes all of the above and signs you out.

If you are signed in and your changes have synced, your information is safe in your account and comes back when you sign in again, on this device or another. Anything recorded offline that has not yet synced is only on that device — clearing storage before it syncs will lose it.

If you only ever read our public pages and never created an account, the only things to clear are your theme and language preferences and the cached content — we hold no health information about you, because you never gave us any.

To remove the information held in your account as well, delete your account from your profile settings or from our account deletion page.
